The Plett Tourism Association is committed to supporting and empowering community organisations in Plettenberg Bay. As part of our initiative to foster community development and strengthen partnerships, we have provided branded gifts that are intended to enhance activities and events, promote their causes, and show our appreciation for their contribution to our community.

In the last six months the following organisations have received t-shirts, caps, buffs, aprons, beaded keyrings, and other items, bearing the Plett it’s a feeling logo:

Exciting developments await the Plettenberg Bay Airport in a long-awaited move: the tender for the development of Plettenberg Bay Airport has been awarded, with rsa.AERO, the company also overseeing operations at the Cape Winelands airport, securing the contract.

The announcement, made by Bitou Municipality on Friday 16 February 2024, marks the culmination of an extensive evaluation process and the completion of the legally mandated appeals period. Nick Ferguson, Managing Director of rsa.AERO, expressed gratitude for the municipality's confidence in their expertise.

“1,079 critically endangered Knysna seahorses stranded on Lookout Beach, with 737 successfully released back into their habitat.” 

In late September 2023, our dedicated Plett Stranding Network, which includes our researcher Melissa and field assistant Julene, received an urgent call regarding a significant event on Lookout Beach: a mass stranding of Knysna seahorses. The Knysna seahorse, a species classified as critically endangered, faced this dire situation.

Local Plett station, Radio204 reaches more than 56,000 listeners! Local Plett station, Radio204 reaches more than 56,000 listeners!

Radio204’s dedication and quality programming earned the station 14,500 new listeners. This achievement means a lot to Likhaya FM. Radio204 started broadcasting in 2020 and ever since then it never looked back.

“I’m so excited, I don’t have words to describe how I feel right now. I want to thank our talented, dedicated presenters who work hard to serve our lovely listeners,” said S’bongile (S’Bosh) Tom, the station manager. Radio204 is still looking for regular advertisers and additional financial support. Likhaya FM has many plans for the young people in Bitou.

This summer, Plettenberg Bay offered a diverse lineup of family-friendly events and festivals which took place across Bitou during the peak summer holiday months of December and January. Cletous Mazarura has been appointed as the Assistant General Manager at The Plettenberg on the Garden Route.

Mazarura began his career in the 5-star hotel industry at the Sheraton Hotel in Harare. This led him to Planet Baobab Lodge in Botswana, and on to South Africa where he notched up more experience at Zebula Golf Estate & Spa and Waterberg Lodge in Limpopo, as well as Tsala Treetop Lodge.

Plettenberg Bay is part of the migratory whale route for several species during the months of May through to October.

Southern right whales leave their Antarctic feeding ground to frolic in the warm waters of the Cape coast. Here they mate, calve and generally hang out, occasionally flopping a tail up, or sticking their heads out of the water to check out the humans. They are so easy to watch.

Humpback whales arrive with their calves and give birth in the protective waters of the bay. They can often be seen feeding directly behind the waves and are often spotted around Robberg Nature Reserve.
