This is a collaboration with THE CVPITOL, local designers who contributed towards the process of developing the work. The initial plan is to bring value to the current African practice, dignity to art and voice for contemporary art Practitioners. During the performance the wish is to interrogate how we as artists can shed anxiety and solutions to the demands of different systems and wider society through the process of creating, making and performing art.

Wezile Mgibe

I am emerging art practitioner who uses performing and visual arts as a tool for social change and who exercises strong improvision skills in doing so. I am also a facilitator who aims to interrogate the dynamics of site, culture and place by exploring collaborative working models, engaging in community work and critical thinking.

I am trained in various dance disciplines, particularly contemporary, Jazz d African and I possess a Musical Theatre background.

I have been Commissioned I create work in Theatre and specific sites. I am OpenLab alumnus, which is an interdisciplinary residency that offers artists an opportunity to create work in the public realm. My work introduces performing art from unsual angles and in mobile spaces. I use audio, visuals, and movements as an offering, giving an accountability a place at the table, while I lead people to the experimental exploration of Live Art journey in order to find ways to face and forgive various difficult realities in the non-verbal platform.

I am working on empowering other young people through introducing them to the importance of performing art in public spaces. My future goals include being a hand to those who cannot help themselves, to give life to untold stories and celebrating African cultures in the face of negative perceptions in the wider world.
