Showville is South Africa’s small town talent show… and it’s coming to Plett!!!

SABC 2 has commissioned Okuhle Media to produce the second season of Showville. The production will visit the towns on the attached list.

The Concept

Showville is a nationwide small-town talent competition where two iconic hosts take the “show to the town” by visiting a different town each week, and selecting four finalists whose performances are put to a town vote to decide who walks away with R 10 000 and newfound fame.

Everybody dreams of becoming a star and basking in their fifteen minutes of fame. SHOWVILLE makes dreams a reality by taking the glitzy TV industry to the small, remote and overlooked dorpies, knowing that every town has a story and every town has a star.

The series centers on small town talent shows where breathtaking “OMG” moments impress, and the riveting but expected cringe worthy yet comedic auditions entertain. SHOWVILLE gives regular towns’ folk a chance to be the big fish in the little pond of their hometown!

Each self-contained one hour episode in the series sees SHOWVILLE touching down in another quintessentially small South African dorpie where it holds open call auditions, welcoming everyone from singers and dancers to comedy acts and jugglers – putting together a talent show in a mere four days.

Two instantly recognisable and prominent TV stars will host the series, audition the talent and act as mentors. Post auditions they select four finalists to participate in a talent show held at a local venue. The audience gets to know the finalists, their back-stories and what they would do with the cash prize and infamy as these mentors coach them over multiple days. The goal is to bring out the best of their abilities in preparing them for their performance at a “Big Show” in front of a local audience who then select the winner by public vote.

On Day One, the series’ hosting duo and performance coaches host open auditions. Absolutely any and every kind of performer is welcome to show their stuff and tell their story. At the end of the day, our hosts select the four acts they feel will put on the best show for the town. These are The Finalists.

Days Two – Coaches will mentor each finalist in preparation for the “big show” all whilst juggling their real jobs, their families and their nerves.

Day Three brings the final competition, presented at a well-known town venue for a live, local audience. Now it’s all up to the performers’ fellow citizenry – including friends, family, co-workers and neighbours – to choose.

Auditions

Auditions for Showville 2018 will take place in Plett at the Piesang Valley Community Hall on 19 Feb.

• Registration and prescreenings will take place at the hall on 19 Feb from 12pm to 4pm.
• Final auditions at 5pm to 6:30pm.
• Final announcement of selected performer/acts at 7 pm.
