She moves an eyeball and you are transfixed. If you are at all interested in physical stage performance you will be well-advised not to miss this incredible opportunity to learn from one of SA’s finest.
Mamela trained at the Zama Dance School and the Pretoria Dance Technikon receiving a National Diploma in Ballet. In 1998 she received a scholarship to further her studies at the Alvin Ailey American Dance centre. Upon graduation Mamela joined the State Theatre Dance Company performing nationally and internationally.
Whilst appearing in major international musicals, such as The Lion King, We Will Rock You and African Footprints, Mamela Nyamza simultaneously started to develop her own artistic practice, developing choreographies which deal with important political and social issues of today’s South Africa.
