In collaboration with Bitou Municipality, Plett Arts Festival brings you Plett AFROJAZZ, an exuberant finale to the Plett Arts Festival featuring the likes of Pops Mohamed, Dave Reynolds and Femi Koya.
With over 170 performances and a SAMA-nominated album between them, Pops Mohamed (Jo’burg) and Dave Reynolds (Namibia) are joining forces once again, this time alongside Ronan Skillen (Ireland) and Charlton Daniels (Cape Town), in their pivotal Afro jazz collaborative show, PAN AFRICAN CALLING – a unique performance, combining the talents of diverse musicians, in a distinctive combination of jazz and world influences which stretch from Africa to India and Australia in their instrumental origins.
We welcome to Plett for the very first time, world afrobeat music composer and performer, versatile saxophonist and dynamic vocalist, FEMI KOYA AND HIS AFROBEAT BAND. He has shared the stage with Youssou N’dour, Yvonne Chaka Chaka and John Legend. He has played festivals and recorded with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, Oliver Mtukudzi, Salif Keita, Baba Maal, Pops Mohamed and Angelique Kidjo. Combining West African highlife and Jazz, South African Sofiatown with nostalgic Afrobeat root sounds, his music is a rich blend of deep and sultry Afrobeat and contemporary groove.
