The Lionheart Experience Presentation in Plettenberg Bay

Annabelle Conyngham was most fortunate to have shared Richard and Candy Mckibbin’s enthusiasm, dedication and expertise last month when they were brought in as guides by the Africa Foundation and &Beyond, celebrating  25 operational years of the Foundation.

She is delighted to be able to introduce The LionHeart Team to Plettenberg Bay and is most grateful that they have agreed to give a presentation to raise vital funds for the Plett Environmental Forum.

Richard Mckibbin:
“It has been a dream of mine for over a decade to be able to share my stories, sightings, experiences and photographs of this gorgeous planet and its creatures.  As well as igniting passion, I also aim to educate on some of the finer details, facts and observations of nature that come from having spent many hundreds of hours watching quietly, sometimes from a distance, sometimes intimately close, absorbing all that I can and being constantly amazed by what I see and learn. The more time I spend in the bush, the more I learn, the more I realize how little I know and how much more there is to learn”.

Richard is a child of the bushveld, his childhood memories are of experiences in the Okavango Delta. He became a professional sportsman, competing internationally on the South African Wakeboard team for 6 years. He studied physiotherapy at Wits Medical School, subsequently becoming Chairman of a community development NGO in Zululand for ten years.

He qualified as a Wildlife Guide establishing his current business “The Lionheart Experience” with his wife Candy. Together they completed a fascinating two year study of the leopards of iSimangaliso Wetland Park in St Lucia. This topic will form part of his presentation.

He is an instructor at Bhejane Nature, training, lecturing and leading the field guide students on practical’s in Zululand, teaching them the art of tracking and bush lore. He and Candy run wildlife programmes and events.  He is a brilliant photographer.
