Bronze Fields exhibit by Robbie Leggat
Local bronze sculptor Robbie Leggat gave a demonstration in the art of bronze sculptures today in an exhibition at his workshops outside Plett on his farm Bronze Fields. Leggat, whose sculptures include the famous dolphins on the traffic circle at the start of Main Street, performed a pouring of a bronze for a group of artists and enthusiasts and explained the techniques applied in creating bronze statues and sculptures.
One of the methods he described was the ‘lost wax’ technique in which molten metal is poured into a mold that has been created by means of a wax model. Once the mold is made, the wax model is melted and drained away.
After the demonstration Robbie answered questions from the group and visitors were invited to view the sculptures available for purchase. Leggat’s son Brendan, also an accomplished bronze sculptor, was at the demonstration and many of his works were also on display.
Robbie Leggat will be exhibiting his works at The Grand in Main Street Plett on Friday from 4pm.
