On Thursday 8th December representatives from CemAir met the Plett Lifeguards at Central Beach in Plett today to hand over new kit to them.

Laura van der Molen (CFO of CemAir) addressed the group of about 30 lifeguards and Wessa (the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa) beach stewards, and in her speech announced that CemAir would be supporting the Plett Lifeguards for the following 3 years throughout the year as there was a clear need for a safety presence on the town’s beaches all year round.

Laura stressed that CemAir’s involvement was not only to ensure safety for holidaymakers on the beaches, but also to invest in the youth of our town by providing employment for the young lifesavers, upskilling them and providing hope for their futures.

In 2017 there will be a minimum of two lifesavers on duty on at least one of the beaches in Plettenberg Bay every single day of the year. CemAir’s sponsorship for the next three years focuses on working with Bitou Municipality to extend the life-guarding season to 365 days a year across as many beaches as possible.

At the ocean-side ceremony attended by members of the Bitou Municipality and Plett Tourism, Bitou Mayor Peter Lobese also addressed the lifeguards and thanked CemAir for their support. He also encouraged lifesavers who had recently finished matric to apply for the Bitou bursary to further their education.
