Humpback-Dolphin-Conservation-Project-2The EWT S.A. Senior Golf Tour will be hosting the R500 000 SA Senior Open from 4 – 7 April at Plettenberg Bay Country Club, with the Endangered Wildlife Trust being the beneficiary – specifically the Humpback Dolphin.

Indian Ocean Humpback Dolphins are South Africa’s most endangered dolphin yet few people even know of its existence. The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) has worked on this charismatic species before, in the 1990s and early 2000s, and is now renewing its focus as the Humpback Dolphin’s threatened status has slipped from Vulnerable to Endangered. Their shallow water habitat is one of the most highly impacted, subject to threats from human activities in both the terrestrial and the marine environments and this is exacerbated near urban centres.

Humpback-Dolphin-Conservation-ProjectThe Bitou Municipality and Plett Tourism are very excited to welcome the EWT Senior Golf Series to Plettenberg Bay Country Club and believe that everyone who both lives and holidays in the region will come out to support this unique event. It is our responsibility to protect regional resources and beauty, and the endangered Humpback Dolphin, which only occurs on this stretch of coastline, is a key part of that, which made it the obvious choice to be the benefactor of this event.

The format for the event is 72 professionals playing 4 rounds, with 72 amateurs playing together with the professionals for the first two days. At the same time, the SA Golf Heritage Trust will be hosting its annual Southern Africa Golf Hall of Fame Induction Gala Banquet on 05 April at the Lookout Deck’s ‘Equinox’ restaurant.
