An intrepid group of cyclists set off this morning at 08h35 from Plett’s Main Street as they took on the inaugural ride of the Cross Cape Cycle Route which extends from Plett to Cape Town.

In attendance were Minister of Economic Opportunities, Mr Alan Winde (who was cycling the route), Bitou Municipality’s Mayor Mr Peter Lobese (who set them off), and Minister of Transport and Public Works, Mr Donald Grant.

Mr Winde mentioned in his speech that “one of the purposes of the Cross Cape Cycle Route is to connect our small villages and grow their economy whilst allowing cyclists and adventure tourists to see different parts of our country that are off the beaten track”.

Mr Lobese thanked Mr Winde by saying, “We are grateful for this wonderful opportunity to put our town in the spotlight. Plett is home. It is alpha and omega. You can start here, and end here.”
