violin-piano-concertAnneke Lamont, one of South Africa’s foremost concert pianists and Lieva Starker, promising violinist originally from Cape Town, will join forces in a concert made possible by Concerts SA at the Ouland Royale, Plettenberg Bay on 25 July.

The violin and piano concert will reflect Starker’s recent studies at the Birmingham Conservatoire in the United Kingdom but will also be true to her roots with the inclusion of works from South African composers.

Starker will present works by Bach, Beethoven and Saint-Saëns, as well as South African composers Clare Loveday, Hendrik Hofmeyr and Péter Louis van Dijk.

Half of the proceeds from the concert will be donated to the PlettAid Foundation/Hospice Plett. A selection of tea and cakes (included in the ticket price) will be served from 16:00 and the concert starts at 17:30. This will give Knysna residents time to travel both ways in daylight. The organisers are most grateful to Wilja Reitz for providing the venue free of charge to support their cause. Cash bar available.

Starker has won various prizes at some of South Africa’s most prestigious competitions and currently studies violin performance with the renowned Jan Repko and Jiafeng Chen at Birmingham Conservatoire in the UK. She has performed as soloist with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. Starker has also enjoyed concerts in the United Kingdom that included a performance in one of Birmingham Conservatoire’s flagship concert series – the Beethoven Marathon.

Lamont requires little introduction in South Africa and is easily one of the country’s foremost pianists. After completing her studies in Hanover, Germany, Lamont returned to South Africa as a collaborator with some of the country’s greatest soloists, producing many recordings under the Salon Music label. She has also served as an official accompanist for various national competitions and also serves as a juror at both national and international competitions. Lamont regularly performs at festivals in Grahamstown, Franschhoek and Potchefstroom and has conducted two national tours with acclaimed cellists, Alexander Ivashkin and Gary Hoffman.

The concert in Plettenberg Bay is the first in a tour that will also travel to Knysna and then go north to Gauteng, where the duo will also perform in Johannesburg and Pretoria on 1 and 2 August.
