Dylan van Wyk wins the Robberg Express in 52min 23sec

The second Kurland Brick Robberg Express Trail Run was hosted by Plett Athletics Club on Saturday, October 3.

About 100 runners ranging in age from eight to 62 took on the 10km technical trail run or the scenic 5km Shy Shark Fun Run.

The first male over the finish line was Dylan van Wyk of Plett Athletics Club in an impressive time of 52.23 minutes. The 10km route was a full clockwise lap of the peninsula, including a loop around The Island.

The second male was Wayne Windwaai of Sedgefield Striders running club in 56.22 minutes and in third place was Stef le Roux a member of Plett NSRI in 56.59 minutes. The first lady home was Lisil Grobler of Knysna Marathon Club (KMC) in 1 hour 9 minutes and 9 seconds. On her tail, just 31 seconds later, was Annikie Botes also of KMC.

Young Robyn De Vries of Plett sped in to take third place in 1 hour 26 minutes.

All Robberg Express prize winners won vouchers from Plett Sports.

Due to the growing number of children joining the club, a shorter, easier 5km route called the Shy Shark was set up on half of the Robberg looping at Witsand. The three top runnerrs were Sebastian Brink, Henri van Huysteen and Mathew van Coller.

The Plett Athletics Club wishes to thank sponsors Kurland Brick for their continued support sponsoring this event, Cape Nature for allowing the club to host its run on their magnificent rock, NSRI volunteers for being on hand in case of an emergency and the Emcare ambulance, Spur for refueling runners with great burgers. Titsikamma Water for sponsoring the bottled water at the finish line.

Thanks also goes to The Table for hosting pre-race registration during their Friday evening happy hour the previous day, to Deon of Plett Sports for arranging the cool race T-shirts and buffs and for sponsoring the prizes for the first male and female.

There was also a great lucky prize draw with prizes donated by Plett Game Reserve, Offshore Adventures, Thyme and Again Farm Stall, Aroma Flex Sports Massage, LM Restaurant, Surf Café and Hanlie Sinclair’s The Treatment Room.

The club looks forward to doing it all again next year.
