Plettenberg Bay’s The Fat Fish restaurant has been recognised as the top contributor in the country to the StreetSmart South Africa fundraising initiative over the past year.

StreetSmart – an initiative that raises funds in aid of keeping children off the streets – last year raised more than R1-million by by encouraging diners to add a small donation to their bills.

The biggest portion of these funds were raised by The Fat Fish in Plettenberg Bay. The restuarant joined the initiative in July 2013.

The money raised in the various towns and cities around the country is all donated to local charities and in Plett’s case the funds go Masizame.

The funding has allowed Masizame to expand their services through hiring a social auxiliary worker intern and an educational psychologist whose roles are to facilitate the process of sending 12 drop-outs back to school.

The coastal holiday town managed to raise R50 000 during 2016.
