PLETTENBERG BAY (October 5, 2014)
The inaugural Sasfin Plett Wine & Bubbly Festival launched this Saturday at The Plettenberg Hotel, a beautiful reception for more than 70 distinguished guests who were fortunate to experience hospitality Plett style – sunny blue skies, crisp clean air and an amazing demonstration of Southern Right whales in the bay. Following proceedings, The Plettenberg’s Executive Chef, Peter Tempelhoff, delighted guests with a food pairing of five local Méthode Cap Classique wines and a selection of his mouthwatering delicacies.
Plett’s Mayor, the Honourable Memory Booysen said a few words and officially launched the inaugural event with a ‘wine sabrage’, with instruction and a demonstration by Plett winemaker Anton Smal. Using a sword, the end of the Bramon MCC and Plettenvale MCC were knocked off in one clean piece, cork, glass and all. This was receive with many cheers by guests.
“This annual weekend has brought together members of our Plett wine industry, professionals and wine enthusiasts.” said Peter Wallington, Chairman of Plett Tourism. “We are thrilled that through all this celebration, winemakers in the area are receiving the acclaim they well deserve. This is positive boost for employment and tourism in our town.”
The Sasfin Plett Wine & Bubby Festival featured nine local wine estates, with more than 30 wines and some of Plett’s trendsetting fine food artisans. The weeklong festival offers not only the main event at the Beacon Island Resort, but also a multiple of wine farm breakaway events, which include a cycling wine route race, a cheese making course, a country fayre and a contemporary music and arts day.
This was a celebration of farm-to-table wines of Plettenberg Bay.
