AfrAsia Bank and New World Wealth recently released this year’s review of the top 10 residential estates in South Africa.

The New World Wealth research team visited over 100 residential estates across the country in order to compile the report which contains an overall top 10, as well as top 10s in three different sub-categories including the top 10 retirement estates.

The Plettenberg Manor, on which construction commenced September 2016 with civil works, was listed as one of the top 10 retirement estates. Hein Ehlers, CEO and founder of Devmark Property Group, is delighted with the news. “Plettenberg Bay ranks as one of the top three premier property locations in the country next to Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard and Sandton in Johannesburg. We believe this makes it the ideal setting for our new upmarket retirement development, The Plettenberg Manor. We’ve been involved in the development of retirement villages for more than 27 years and have an outstanding track record. All our purchasers in these developments have seen significant capital growth since the acquisition of their property – I believe it will be no different with The Plettenberg Manor.”

According to AfrAsia Bank and New World Wealth, South Africa is one of the global pioneers in residential estate living. In fact, the only country with more residential estates than South Africa is the USA. Ehlers continues: “Plett is growing, both nationally and internationally. We’ve seen an influx of buyers, especially from Gauteng, who hope to retire in the Southern Cape. There is already a shortage of retirement estates in the area and by all indications, demand will only increase.”

The Plettenberg Manor is an extremely exciting project for Ehlers, “Plettenberg Bay has been my second home for the past 37 years and The Plettenberg Manor’s natural beauty is breath-taking. The homes have been designed for retirees. Part of the property is a wetland that, over the course of the development, will be rehabilitated to include board walks and bird hides. The Keurbooms beach is also within walking distance.”

The Plettenberg Manor will ensure that residents can see out their golden years in a tranquil setting with excellent security, a clubhouse centre and a place where pets are welcome. Ehlers adds: “Furthermore, the development will also include a limited number of apartments and assisted living suites, access to frail care, with a specialist section for Dementia.”

The Plettenberg Manor will offer 111 luxury homes and exclusive cottages, as well as 54 assisted living suites and health care facilities. There will be six accommodation types ranging from assisted living units to three-bedroom exclusive homes designed in a Cape vernacular style, juxtaposing the Cape South Coast’s rural charm with sophisticated modern functionality and open plan living. Prices range from R1.825 million to R3.825 million incl VAT (no transfer duty).

Successful retirement villages that testify to the value of Devmark Property Group’s unique approach include the successful completion of the Clé du Cap Retirement Village in Kirstenhof, Legato Retirement Village in Durbanville, Heritage Manor in Somerset West, Onrus Manor in Hermanus, La Vie Est Belle in Durbanville, Bella Vista in Bellville, Villla Cortona Retirement Village in Durbanville and Helderberg Manor in Somerset West.

Ehlers concludes: “Our experienced team has a thorough understanding of this market with meticulous research and methodical planning undertaken on every development. With its coastal location and security, The Plettenberg Manor offers owners an exceptional and secure lifestyle.”

Other retirement villages in the top 10 include Constantia Place, Evergreen Bergvliet, Evergreen Noordhoek (new), Evergreen Val de Vie (new), Mount Edgecombe Retirement Estate, San Sereno Bryanston, Somerset Lifestyle & Retirement Village (new), Tokai Estate (new) and Waterfall Hills Retirement Estate.
