#1 – The Plett Food Film Festival

REASON-1-Plett-Food-FilmFood Network UK’s Reza “The Spice Prince” hosts the Plett Food Film Festival from 9-11 July.

You’re invited to experience Delicious film | Compelling food during three days of five classic food films and the food that is central to their narrative.

International irrepressible chef Reza “The Spice Prince” Mahammad is our guest and cooks for us. South Africa’s favourite cook Karen Dudley of The Kitchen shares her passion and food inspiration and accomplished actress, Lika Berning is the festival’s ambassador and host.

Murray Pienaar, from Kyknet’s Koekedoor, will entertain both mums & kids Local Fine Dining Chefs pair dishes of local artisanal cheeses with award winning Plett Winelands wine & bubbly. A superb music experience accompanies all events.

#2 – Meet Reza “The Spice Prince” Mahammad

REASON-2-Meet-RezaReza Mahammad is the hugely popular and flamboyant TV chef and owner of the renowned Star of India restaurant in Kensington, London.  Reza is a top chef and main talent for the Food Network UK and has received high praise for his last three series Reza’s African Kitchen and Reza, Spice Prince of India and Reza, Spice Prince of Thailand/Spice Prince of Vietnam.

Reza will be at the Plett Food Film Festival on 9-11 July and will be cooking for guests on the final evening of the festival which includes an Indian supper, canapés by Reza and a screening of the beautiful film, The Lunchbox.

#3 – Meet “The Kitchen’s” Karen Dudley

REASON-3-Meet-KarenKaren Dudley, Goddess of  The Kitchen, will be doing what she does best at the opening night of the Plett Food Film Festival.

The “Big Opening Night” will feature a demonstration by Karen, the popular foodie film “Big Night” and a 3-course Italian Festa.

#4 – Music at Plett MAD

#5 – Art at Plett MAD

REASON-5-ArtDid you know that the “A” in MAD stands for Art? Plett is a work of art in and of itself but the art on display at the Plett MAD festival is something to look forward to.  Provocative, evocative and a whole lot of fun, the Big Fat Studio Party at Myfanwy Bekker’s Lookout Centre Studio, again launches a year of life drawings by accomplished Plett fine artists. Enjoy wine and snacks on opening night on 2 July, and the smooth sounds of Tongue & Groove, as you browse the drawings on sale for a hundred bucks each!  There is no charge – just beautiful art on sale!

Art abounds at the Plett Food Film Festival as culinary artists Reza “The Spice Prince” and Karen Dudley create masterpieces for guests to enjoy.

#6 – Drama at Plett MAD

REASON-6-DramaDid you know that the “D” in MAD stands for Drama? The Plett Food Film Festival brings delightful foodie films to Plett for a pairing with locally produced dishes and demonstrations from the Food Network’s Reza “The Spice Prince” and Karen Dudley.

The films are all highly regarded from Hollywood productions “Big Night” and Disney’s “Feast” to delectable “The Cheese Nun”, “A Year in Burgundy” and “The Lunchbox” – the films celebrate their gastronomic origins and we celebrate the food pairing and the accompanying Plett Winelands produce.

The Plett Fringe Festival brings some of the best performers of the National Arts Festival to Plett on their way to Grahamstown and showcases comedians, storytellers and performers from around the country.

#7 – The Plett Winelands at the Plett Food Film Festival (9-11 July)

REASON-7-Plett-Wine2The second day of the Plett Food Film Festival is a celebration of the award-winning wines of the new Plett Winelands. Mingle with the Food Network’s Reza “The Spice Prince” Mahammad and Plett’s local chefs, winemakers and cheese-makers.

Both films for the day, The Cheese Nun and A Year in Burgundy have been selected to enhance the cheese and wine experience. Ticket price includes a Plett Wine & Bubbly flute to take home!

#8 – Meet Actress Lika Berning

REASON-8-Meet-LikaOur Plett Food Film Festival ambassador and hostess is accomplished actress Lika Berning.  Lika has been working in film, television and theatre for more than 10 years and is most known for her acting work in Afrikaans film – Liefling, die movie, Vrou Soek Boer, French Toast and the international feature Big Bang Club.

When not on set, Lika works passionately behind the scenes at iKasi Media, an NPO she founded to facilitate film training programmes for aspiring filmmakers in Plett and the Eden District. Meet Lika at the #Plett Food Film Festival.

#9 – Photography: Nature’s artwork in sunrises and sunsets

REASON-9-PhotographyIf the Plett MAD Festival is a celebration of Music Art and Drama – Plett provides a wonderful artistic and dramatic show with every sunrise and sunset! The sunrises from behind the Tsitsikamma Mountains must be some of the best in the world as the light shines golden across the bay and the sunsets are pink perfection from anywhere in Plett.

Photographers and Instagrammers can take advantage of the later sunrises and earlier sunsets while still enjoying the evening entertainment of the Plett Food Film Festival and Plett MAD.

#10 – Plett Fringe Festival

REASON-10-Fringe-Festival25-29 June

The Plett Fringe Festival, now in its 3rd year, kicks of the Plett MAD Festival with timeless classics, award winning performances and memorable music acts at The White House for 5 exciting days, in aid of the Kids of Kurland.

Performances include South African comedian, Nik Rabinowitz, Pierre van Heerden in Borderline, musicals Bar None and Undermined, The Lunchbox Theatre’s Ilifa and timeless classic “Mother of All Eating”.

#11 – Indigo Bay Seafood and Music Festival

5 July

South African band, Red Tape Riot will perform a delightful day concert on the south lawn of the Beacon Island hotel accompanied by a seafood feast from Indigo Bay.

The south lawn of the Beacon Island, location of last year’s Sasfin Plett Wine and Bubbly Festival, provides a perfect backdrop for the seafood and music festival.

 #12 – Cupcakes with Koekedoor’s Murray Pienaar
