Sushi documentary kicks off Plett Food & Film
Thursday night in Plett at The Fat Fish restaurant took on a slightly different form with the launch of Plett Food & Film, a series of movie nights paired with culinary treats.
The film tonight was Jiro Dreams of Sushi, a beautifully crafted documentary detailing the art of 85 yr old, Jiro Ono, proprietor of a 10-seater, sushi only restaurant in the Tokyo subway and the first of its kind to be awarded a 3 star Michelin review. David Gelb’s lyrical depiction of one man’s continual search for perfection both captivates and inspires whilst the exquisite photography proves torturous if viewing on an empty stomach.
The screening was followed by a an Asian feast and highly entertaining sushi demonstration by “Chef Jerome” (aka local celebrity chef Francois Ferreira) who presented his decidedly South African take on Japanese cuisine.
