I was born with an everlasting hunger. I blame my mom for going on weigh less while expecting me. And later found out that I was born with my umbilical cord around my neck, so I was properly under fed. Growing up I never laid eyes upon a kiddies menu. I always wanted to have what my dad was having. I grew up in the kitchen. Not cooking, but always looking for something to eat. Only later in life I realized that it would probably be easier just to learn how to cook.
I grew up in Pretoria where I studied hospitality management. I then ended up in the Ritz Carlton in Florida. There I learned from the American’s how to serve customers. And they know how. But I was not satisfied with life on the floor. I wanted to be on the other side of the window. The side where all those smells and flavours came from. So I packed my bags and headed to the culinary academy outside of Paarl. I was very fortunate to end up in the moulding hands of chef Michael Broughton. I became the saucier at Terroir and there I learned how to smell and taste on a new level.
I always had a dream to own my own restaurant. Opened up Arugula Bistro in Welgemoed CT in March 2012. Decided to spread my wings to Plettenberg Bay in 2015 and open up a second Arugula. So here I am.
Come and witness my everlasting hunger.
