This seagull uses an ingenious method to open a red bait pod on Central beach in Plettenberg Bay.
As the pod is heavy, he grabs it in his beak and uses the strong south easterly wind to get himself airborne.
Then, once he’s about 5 meters up he drops it onto the hard beach sand. He then lands and pecks at it with his beak to open it up where it has cracked.
