We look forward to welcoming you to Bronze Fields Art Studio and Foundry.
Robert Leggat is a sculptor, with his own foundry “Bronze Fields Foundry” on a farm in Harkerville, Plettenberg Bay. Robert casts for a select few sculptors as well as hosts private exhibitions and bronze pouring.
When visiting the Studio and Foundry the lost wax, silicone moulding and the casting process will be explained to you and if you’re here at the right time you may actually get to watch the bronze being poured into the moulds, which is amazing. You may even want to try your hand at sculpting and have your very own piece cast.
Robert Leggat’s attention to detail is exceptional and the ability to capture the essence of his subject involves long hours observing, drawing and sketching from life plus the use of taxidermic examples borrowed from collections and museums.
A life-size Leggat bronze sculpture of a Dolphin and Calf was erected in Plettenberg Bay in 2000. This iconic sculpture which encapsulates the beauty of these wonderful creatures is positioned in the hub of the town.
Another iconic sculpture by Robert is the Archangel Michael, which is an impressive 4-metre high sculpture that is positioned at Michaelhouse in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
All bronzes are cast by Robert – from conception to completion.
