With rich farming heritage, Doug and Sue Lund brought their young family to The Crags in 2006, planting new vineyards, building a tasting room & creating inspiring places and spaces.
Their first harvest in 2012 yielded some of the most unblemished grapes any farmer is ever likely to see. Prioritising quality over quantity, they pay meticulous attention to detail, use organic fertilisers and even taking the unusual step of using netting over their vines.
Award-winning winemaker, Anton Small, has put the grapes to excellent use, producing Newstead’s Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, as well as white and pink MCC bubblies.
These are available on Newstead’s website, or from the estate itself, which you can also visit for some of the most talked about meals in Plett. Tastings don’t need to be booked but lunches do.
Newstead is open from Tuesday to Saturday 11am – 4pm (extended high season hours will apply).

Our salubrious vines are the source of delicious wines.
CHARDONNAY
This easy drinking, award winning unwooded Chardonnay is honest and elegant. It’s fresh in flavour and well rounded with a spicy citrus and melon aroma. We like drinking it with lunch and friends. R75
SAUVIGNON BLANC
Simple and sophisticated, this award winning Sauvignon Blanc is full of flavour, with a subtle lime, gooseberry and passion fruit aroma. It’s fresh, unique and delicious, and we try to savour it slowly (but usually don’t succeed). R75
MÉTHODE CAP CLASSIQUE BRUT 2012
Our award winning bubbly has yeasty, tasty notes with a crisp, elegant limey finish, and needs no occasion for a celebration. Released stock sold out in weeks. R120
METHODE CAP CLASSIQUE Rosé 2013
Made of our increasingly acclaimed Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, our first Rosé bubbly will be released at the end of 2014. We’re counting the days.
PINOT NOIR 2014
Very limited quantities of our first Pinot Noir will be released only when the wine is ready, which we anticipate will be at the end of 2014/2015. From the perfectly unblemished grapes, we’re looking forward to delicious raspberry notes that’ll be worth the wait.
