You might easily miss the sign off the N2 pointing in the direction of THE MOHAIR MILL – along the road towards Monkeyland – when driving through The Crags. But one look into the MOHAIR MILL SHOP, housed with the original mohair blanket factory building, and you’ll never miss it again.
Like a big farm stall, you’ll be drawn to the colour, natural displays and the array of the most beautiful mohair blankets. With the biggest selection of natural mohair, merino and bamboo socks in South Africa, you simply can’t leave without at least one pair!
The Mohair Mill shop subscribes to the philosophy of sourcing and promoting local and SA-produced products and you’ll just feel right at home and down to earth. Within the kitchen area, find an array of local cookbooks, local pottery and kitchen decor, and move on to a paradise of kiddies gifts, bright Electric Zulu tshirts, bamboo products, sheepskin slippers, leather wallets, belts, hats and bags.
And even a lounge area for grumpy husbands to let their wives shop in peace! All the furniture is for sale, including Nguni, springbok hides and when the caffeine fix calls, have a cappuccino (or a beer) at the Peppermill Restaurant, right next door within THE MOHAIR MILL Village.
Pepper and his family, the resident angora goats at THE MILL, serve as endless entertainment to visiting kids who splatter the `skaapkorrels’ (pellets) all over the grounds when trying to feed these mo-hairy friends. They love to tickle the heads of the goats, that vie for the attention of little visitors.
Not only will your children remind you, but after one visit to THE MOHAIR MILL you’ll find yourself making special trips to this destination store, rather than a quick pop-in en route along the N2.
