The Traditional Tea Tour

The Manger Stays and Tours is situated just outside Kranshoek, a Griekwa Settlement approximately 10km outside Plettenberg Bay. They will host a tea tour in the area and surrounds with its expanding honeybush tea cultivation in the Kranshoek and Wittedrift areas.

The Stay is run by Rene and Stanley at their beautiful venue that has the capability to host a variety of functions capable to be customised. Perfect for tourists who need to break from conformity and hotel stays and need the privacy and tranquillity of a farmstead they can call their own to experience true South African Living.

The only region in the world where Honeybush tea grows naturally, it is unique to the area. It is renowned the world over for its healing and restorative properties and its exquisite taste. It is traditionally grown and harvested by hand by the descendants of the Khoisan people that adhere to age old organic processes.

The area boasts a variety of natural botanicals now favoured the world over for its unique flavours and aromas and healing properties.

The Manger Tours now offers this experience to tourists and citizens alike with a tea tour that will entail:

  • A brief history, plant classification, medicinal properties and instruction on how to cultivate and harvest honeybush at the Manger.
  • A Drive through Kranshoek to visit Traditional Knowledge Holders to explain their relationship with the natural resources and experience the traditional “Riel Dans”.
  • Back for a tasting of honeybush tea plus Honeybush Flavoured accompaniments (Honeybush flavoured lemon merinque and milk tart) at The Manger.
  • On offer also traditional farm style meals by booking (24hr notice)(Tripe, Roosterbrood,Potjiekos, Fish and Patat (sweet potato).

During the natural harvest time of the Honeybush during August September the farm will also offer wild harvesting. This will give tourists the opportunity to identify the plant in the wild, harvesting it in its natural environment and be explained through the drying process.

The aim is to give customers the full harvesting experience from growing to having a beautiful cup of tea, so patrons will gain the experience and have something to show for it.

The tea is also on offer for sale on the farm.

From R550 per person/ With tea tasting R600pp/ Traditional Menu R750pp/ pick up and drop off anywhere around the Plettenberg Bay/ come and experience indigenous culture with a true taste of this area. The experience should take about two to three hours.

The Manger also offers Airport Transfers and specialised tours.
