African Indigenous Renaissance (AIR) Festival Creative Competition

Cape Town Arts Festival (CTAF) in collaboration with Bitou Municipality and the Griqua National Conference are excited to introduce the inaugural African Indigenous Renaissance (AIR) Festival, scheduled for March 21, 2025, at the Kranshoek Multi-Purpose Centre in Plettenberg Bay.

The AIR Festival is a ground-breaking initiative that celebrates and preserves South Africa’s indigenous heritage while empowering marginalized communities, including the Khoisan, Griquas, and local African artisans. The festival is the culmination of a three-month training program that equips participants with skills in indigenous instrument crafting, African storytelling, business and event management, and digital archiving

As part of this vibrant celebration, there will be a Creative Competition to showcase the incredible talents of the programme’s participants. The competition includes the following categories:

  1. Most Beautifully Crafted Instrument – A collaboration between musicians and crafters.
  2. Most Innovative Instrument – New creations from recycled materials.
  3. Best Song – Celebrating storytelling through music.
  4. Best Business Plan – Supporting sustainable cultural enterprises.
