To celebrate Women’s Day, a highly successful sanitary towels campaign was held where over 100 boxes of sanitary towels were collected. These will be handed over to school children throughout Plett’s schools.

This ongoing initiative is run by long time Plett resident and socialite Wildene Jackson. She launched the campaign at N2 Lounge on Women’s Day and I was there on behalf of Plett Tourism to bear witness to this wonderful drive.

Among those who attended were current Plett Deputy Mayor Cllr Sandiso Gcabayi, former Knysna Mayor and now Member of Parliament, Eleanor Bouw-Spies, former Knysna Speaker Cllr Georlene Wolmarans, and former Bitou Cllr Elaine Paulse.

While the response from the Plett community has been amazing so far, obviously more still needs to be done. In this round it was mostly private Plett peeps who contributed.

In a statement released on her Facebook page, Wildene said, “Without the generous support and donations of the community of Plettenberg Bay and surrounding areas, this drive would not have been possible. We are so fortunate and blessed to live in such a caring and compassionate community.”

Ms Jackson hopes that local business establishments will also come on board and support such initiatives in the future.

Those who would like to be part of this important drive can contact her on 072 232 7894.

Well done to you Ms Jackson, and happy Women’s Month to you all. Womandla!
