Comfort Food with the Change of Seasons at Slops Plett
Next month, Slops Restaurant and Bar located on the corner of Main Street in Plett enters its second winter.
With the change of season and as a new year of the Slops journey unfolds, Chris Fermor has been inspired to do what he loves most, focusing on all food and wine avenues. Perfecting certain dishes – loved by locals for many years – which have slowly been added to the existing Slops menu.
“I am very proud of our food menu and the consistency we have delivered to our local community and visitors, but there is also something truly satisfying about food that provides a sense of nostalgia,” explains Chris. “Comfort food that provides a sense of sentimental value is a winning formula. I am sometimes taken aback by the commentary of specific memories, and dishes that I am associated with, from those who have been on this restaurant journey with me. I may be forgotten but the famous bacon and creamed leek pizza never will be! It’s an honour being part of providing this town with foodie joy and evolving flavours!” says Chris. Slops Menu items that have more recently taken pride of place:
- Jalapeno Poppers stuffed with cream cheese, goats cheese and cheddar
- Springbok Carpaccio with seasonal fruit and a pomegranate treacle
- (the signature) Bacon and Creamed Leek Pizza with feta cheese
- Seafood Pizza sauteed with a combination of seafood, garlic, parsley and white wine
- Spicy Chorizo Pizza with chorizo, jalapeno, red pepper and goats cheese
- (a new local favourite) Sirloin Steak with mushroom sauce, and onion rings and chips
- Grilled Calamari Tubes with paprika oil and red peppers
- (a kid’s dream) Chocolate Pizette with marshmallows and rolos

Chris has also spent a fair amount of time tasting and interacting with owners of wine businesses in Plett and the surrounding Garden Route. “I am passionate about wine and supporting business owners where I can,” says Chris. “We have recently introduced our Wine of the Month alongside locally owned wine agency, The Grape Hustle. Our featured wine was Gabrielskloof, owned and run by the Heyns family at ‘Avontuur’, previously a Canola Farm.”
Slops Plett kicked off with a professional tasting on the 17th April and excellent pricing on this brand for a month. Chris will also be able to share in the Gabrielskloof wine appreciation on any other day at just R55 for a complete tasting experience. Bookings can be made on DinePlan.
Slops recently launched a Locals Loyalty Programme. Earn rewards every time you spend at Slops Restaurant or Bar, just ask for one of our managers to assist and add your contact number.
