Dr Evil a perfect warm up for Lions Karoo to Coast

Published: June 4th, 2014

win-dr-evilThere’s been an evolution in the thinking on tapering over recent years, with a move away from complete rest. While you want to be as rested as possible for a big race, you also want your muscles to be reactive – you want to be peaking and not in a trough. For this reason the Pennypinchers DR Evil Classic is the ideal tapering (and warm-up) opportunity ahead of the Pennypinchers Lions Karoo to Coast.

The daily distances for the 2014 Pennypinchers Dr Evil Classic – which will take place over the three days leading up to Pennypinchers Lions Karoo to Coast (18-20 September) – are relatively short.  Day one will be 70 kilometres, day two 80 and day three 50, all run in a cloverleaf format from the race village in Wittedrift.

Not only will Pennypinchers Dr Evil Classic riders be in race-ready shape for Pennypinchers Lions Karoo to Coast, but they will also get preferential treatment:

  • DEC riders get an automatic seeding into the second start group (out of seven).
  • They will receive their Pennypinchers Lions Karoo to Coast race numbers at the Pennypinchers Dr Evil registration so they do not have to register in Uniondale.
  • Pennypinchers Lions Karoo to Coast riders will save R200 on their Pennypinchers Dr Evil Classic entries.

The routes for the three stages are designed by Dr Evil himself, Leon Evans, but unlike the Absa Cape Epic, from where he got his name, they are aimed at fun riders. Evans believes a highlight of event will riding the old railway coffee pot line toward Diepwalle. Much of the route will traverse private Game and Stud Farms and will be a scenic and unique riding experience on trials not open to the everyday public.

“Nowhere in the country can you ride indigenous forests as you can here,” assures Evans

Entries are limited to 300 riders in order to maintain the special flavour of the event, so hurry to www.drevilclassic.com or contact race director Zandile Meneses directly on zandile@drevilclassic.com.

Enter before 31 July and stand a chance to win two nights for two at the luxurious Emily Moon River Lodge. The price is valid for a year and valued at R6,000.00
