
Gugulethu-born dancer and choreographer, Mamela Nyamza, will be putting on a dance workshop at the Plett ARTS Festival in June. She has also been announced as the National Arts Festival (NAF) Featured Artist for 2018.

She moves an eyeball and you are transfixed. About Mamela
Mamela trained at the Zama Dance School and the Pretoria Dance Technikon receiving a National Diploma in Ballet. In 1998 she received a scholarship to further her studies at the Alvin Ailey American Dance centre. Upon graduation Mamela joined the State Theatre Dance Company performing nationally and internationally.
Whilst appearing in major international musicals, such as The Lion King, We Will Rock You and African Footprints, Mamela Nyamza simultaneously started to develop her own artistic practice, developing choreographies which deal with important political and social issues of today’s South Africa.
