On October 31, 2018 a Declaration of Rebellion was read out in Parliament Square, London, UK in front of 1000+ people. The declaration calls for citizens to rise together in nonviolent direct action against the world’s governments for criminal inaction on the ecological crisis. In the days that followed, the declaration was delivered to the prime minister’s residence and a gathering was held outside Buckingham Palace publicly declaring the social contract with the monarchy to be broken as a result of said inaction.
On November 17, Rebellion Day, thousands of concerned citizens of all ages, cultures and orientations, from all over Britain and Europe, gathered to block 5 main bridges into London. At the same time, solidarity actions began to rise up all over the world. Today XR has spread to over 25 countries where coordinated teams are self-organizing and preparing for an International Rebellion starting on April 15th, 2019.
