The annual Hobie 16 Nationals regatta is one of the largest and most competitive sailing class competitions in South Africa, and the last time this competition was held in Plett was 25 years ago. Testament to the growing success of the annual Robberg Fine Foods Classic Beach Regatta held every December at Hobie Beach over the past 3 years, sailors will be coming from around the country to race over 4 days – from Thursday the 17th December to Sunday 20th December.
Make your way to one of Plett’s many beautiful viewing spots to watch the country’s finest Hobie sailors fight it out for line honours on the water. Look out too for local sailing legends and world champions, Blaine Dodds and William Edwards, who are also on the regatta organising committee. Dodds and Edwards, sailing in their backyard, will be hard to beat this year.
Hobie sailing is an inclusive, family-friendly activity and all hobie sailors will be welcome to enter this event. And for those of you not yet fortunate enough to have had a taste of this kind of sailing, come down to Hobie Beach. Sailors are a friendly bunch who will be happy to chat.
Health warning: Hobie sailing is addictive!
