Dael’s approach has blended elements from different eras, combining careful restoration of the historic building with new construction that respects the site’s rich heritage.

Originally built as a barracks for the Dutch East India company (better known these days as the VOC) in the 18th century. It was referred to as “The Barracks” well into the 19th Century.

In 1869 Bishop Grey bought the house, with 18 acres of ground along the foreshore as a residence for the successive clergymen of the parish. It was used as such until 1939 when a new Rectory was built closer to St Peter’s Church.

The building then became know as The Old Rectory.

The building subsequently changed hands a few times but aside from a new roof, this beautiful building survived with only minor structural changes.

After this fascinating talk we will be treated to a carefully chosen “Harvest Table” prepared by The Old Rectory’s chefs, accompanied by a complimentary glass of Kay & Monty wine.

Spaces are limited.

BOOKINGS WILL CLOSE ON FRIDAY 1ST MAY 2025
