Food Lover’s Market Announces Official Food and Drinks Partnership with the Iconic Dr Evil Classic 3-Day Stage Race

Food Lover’s Market has been announced an official food and drinks partnership with beloved Plett MTB stage race, Dr Evil Classic, which will take place from 22 – 24 September 2022 in Plettenberg Bay.

This announcement has been welcomed by the Garden Route cycling community as the Dr Evil Classic celebrates a decade of riding on the spectacular trails that Plettenberg Bay has to offer.

Food Lover’s Market is a perfect match for the health-conscious rider who typically participates in this three-day stage race held over South Africa’s Heritage Day long weekend each year. The event was voted one of the top stage races of its type by cyclists who completed a Garmin survey, hosted by Tread Magazine in 2021.

Food Lover’s Market will provide participants with delicious and nutritious meals after every stage. In partnership with Food Lover’s, the event team are also working on some surprise activations on the route to spoil the riders to the maximum. Food Lover’s Market will partner on the events’ eight waterpoints – providing all snacks and drinks for the points that are traditionally managed by charities from the area.

Besides the breathtaking sea views of stage 3 – this year there is an additional 16km of newly created forest single track created by the MTO Trails team and partners.

Knysna Food Lover’s Market enjoys healthy support from Plett locals

The legendary trail cutter and co-owner of the stage race – Dr Evil himself – aka Leon Evans says: “Even though my family are based in Plettenberg Bay, we regularly make a trip to Knysna just to shop at Food Lover’s. We are proud to welcome Food Lover’s Market on board and we know that this partnership will take the overall rider experience up a level in 2022.”

The Dr Evil Classic is in its tenth year and the feedback and return rate of riders indicates that there is something extremely unique about this particular race. There are three beautiful race villages which have been carefully selected and based on an out-and-back format. This eases the logistics for riders but also allows them to see vastly different routes each day. Riders find their own accommodation in Plettenberg Bay and, as the event takes place at the tail end of winter, there are many special deals for rider accommodation. Please see www.drevilclassic.com for the suggested accommodation partners.

The entry fee for the event is extremely competitive, and the team are generous when it comes to goody bags, taking care of the riders and paying attention to detail. At the end of the day, the routes form an enormous part of the rider experience and, in 2022, the event will cover a new 16km section of single track that has been created by the MTO Trails team and partners on stage three of the event. The partnership with Food Lover’s Market will add another dimension to the rider experience at the race villages and the waterpoints in 2022. In 2021, the event took place under strict Covid-19 regulations and, although it was sold out and a huge success, event organizers feel that now is the perfect time for Food Lover’s Market to join as the legislation relaxes. “This partnership will allow the riders’ race village experience to be elevated to new heights in 2022. We want people to sit down and enjoy a delicious meal together and relax after a morning of experiencing the beauty of the Plett mountain bike trails,” said Evans.

There is nothing more satisfying than a delicious and nutritious meal after a great morning of cycling in Plett!

Another valuable addition to this partnership is the inclusion of Seattle Coffee Co vendors at the daily race villages. Riders who believe that life is too short to drink bad coffee will be in their element!

The Dr Evil Classic is a boutique event that only takes 350 riders. The entry fee is extremely competitive and for more info and to enter, please go to www.drevilclassic.com
