Free things to do in Plettenberg Bay this summer
Grab your moment in Plett without making a dent in your wallet! Discover the best of Plett with some of our favourite places to play on a budget.
Having fun in Plett doesn’t require a lot of money; in fact, many things to see and do are absolutely free or lighter on the wallet.
With a selection of beautiful views, priceless backdrops, and an abundance of unique activities, Plett offers fun and interesting options for kids and adults on a budget.
- Stop by the Plett Tourism Visitors Centre at Melville’s Corner on Plett’s Main Street to pick up a local map, or download it here.
- Try your hand at some angling, choose to reel it in from the lofty rocks or ‘beach chair’ it from the shore. Be sure to pop in at the Post Office in the Main Street for your day licence (minimal cost). From Nature’s Valley to Robberg Beach, the fishing is excellent.
- Download the Plett Trails App and explore a new trail on foot or MTB. www.pletttrails.co.za

- Reduce your carbon footprint and take your bike for a spin around town. There are some super coffee shops to be discovered along the way.
- Window shop at Old Nick Village and visit the weaving museum at the Mungo Mill.
- Peruse local produce and sample fresh fruits at the Old Nick Village Farmers’ Market every Wednesday, Global Village daily and the Harkerville Market on Saturday mornings.
- Do some birding along the Bitou Wetlands, in the Garden of Eden or along the Salt River Trail in Nature’s Valley.
- Explore the many nooks and crannies, boutique shops and galleries along Plett’s Main Street.
- Watch the sunrise from the Whale Tail bench just above Lookout Beach.

- Feed and pet the angora goats at The Peppermill in The Crags.
- Take a moment to appreciate Plett’s permanent Land Art pieces: Aartmoeders and Calling the Herd. Aartmoeders is easily accessible via the Kranshoek village and Calling the Herd can be found on the road towards Uniondale.
- Stand-up paddle or kayak the Bitou and Keurbooms rivers.
- Soak up the sun on any one of Plett’s beautiful beaches, including six International Blue Flag beaches: Robberg 5, Lookout, Keurboomstrand, The Dunes, Singing Kettle or Nature’s Valley.
- Happily while away the day at The Heath in Harkerville, sampling cheeses, browsing the nursery and taking in the beautiful designs of Illovo, and the kids will love the vibrant play area.
- Take a little historical tour around town by visiting some of Plett’s oldest sites including St Peter’s Anglican Church, the Old Timber Shed, the Old Rectory and the old navigational beacon.

- Spend some time with the children exploring the Keurbooms Estuary – you never know what you might find as the lagoon has been recognised as a nursery for rays, and shaggy sea hares and the endangered Knysna seahorse are known inhabitants. Please take nothing but photos and leave nothing but footprints. Accessed via Lookout Beach or Poortjies.
- Take a drive through to Storms River Village stopping at the famous Bloukrans Bridge to watch the fearless bungy jumpers before enjoying some time surrounded by lush indigenous forest.
- Take a day trip to Nature’s Valley for hiking, swimming and paddling or simply exploring the rock pools and enjoying the incredible scenery and forests.
- Spread a little joy, have fun and get creative by decorating rocks, hiding and finding then rehiding these little gems. The art of #plettrocks is alive and well. Find out more on the Plett Rocks Facebook Group.

- Take a meander through the Plett Winelands from Redford Road in the Crags through to Harkerville. It’s a lovely way to spend a day, and you never know what else you may find along the way.
- The Harkerville Hop is a super way to explore the area between Plett and Knysna. Download the map here.
- Or head in the other direction and Cruise the Crags. Find the map here.
