How can you help the people of Plett?

Many people are asking how they can help out with the humanitarian efforts currently underway in Plett.
Unlike the 2017 fires, everything is constricted by COVID-19, so when a truck needs to be unloaded, only a few people can gather together to do that. It hampers this town’s brilliant energy.
But asking how you can help is a very good question, and here’s the answer:
1) DONATE FOOD:
People wishing to donate can do so by donating either at the Methodist church between 09h00 – 13h00 from Mon-Fri or at one of the grocery stores. Currently you can donate at Woolworths, Pick n Pay and Melville’s Spar.
2) DONATE MONEY TO:
The PlettAid Foundation
Account Number: 62063277472
Branch code: 210514
SWIFT Code: FIRNZAJJ
Beneficiary reference: Covid19 your surname
3) PICK AN AREA SPECIFICALLY AND CONTACT THE I/C TO SEE WHERE YOU CAN HELP:

OTHER WAYS TO HELP
Optimizing vegetable gardens
From Dr Nicola Whiteman:
Hi all, we would like to attach a volunteer to each ward who is going to identify all the existing vegetable gardens and try to optimize their production. Hopefully their neighbors will then start doing the same!
Anyone prepared to volunteer please contact Dr Whiteman to be added to the ward volunteer group. Please note that some experience and a passion for gardening would be preferable for these positions.
We would also really appreciate the following for this initiative:
- Garden tools
- Watering cans
- Hose pipes
- Seedling trays and pots
- Organic fertilizer
If you can help with these items, please take them to the Our Address Shelter run by Native Roots, Old Court, Cnr of Marine Way and Sea Witch Avenue. First gate on right as you turn into Sea Witch Avenue.
Mary-Anne Mam Cunningham is the contact person there.
Laptops for school children
I’m trying to gather laptops for the older kids at our school who don’t have any tech and as such can’t join the online classroom. This is important, as schools may return at the end of July and realistically the kids without tech will have fallen behind.
Please give me your spare laptops and I will return them to you once we are back at school. In exchange I will give you a set of six handmade pasta bowls (Plett area only).
Thanks, Lucinda Mudge
