Introducing Slops Eatery
Nestled in the picturesque coastal town of Plettenberg Bay, across from the iconic dolphin circle, is Slops Eatery featuring an upstairs family-friendly dining space and a separate downstairs bar. The name Slops, a South African colloquial term meaning flip-flops, immediately transcends one to care-free days with family or friends, lazy holidays and joyful memories.
The interior reflects the most iconic beach style which was undoubtedly the 1950’s. This era, with its bold stripes, carefree attitude and classic feminine style, resulted in a space which is light, fresh, casual and feels like an eternal holiday. The unique interior is awash with bright orange and blue hues, perfectly capturing the essence of sun-soaked days by the sea and the desire to linger longer.
Bold stripes, reminiscent of classic beach huts, weave throughout the space, adorning walls, upholstery, and even table settings creating a playful and cohesive theme. Oversized beach umbrella lights hang in the popular sunroom and create an eye-catching feature from inside and at street level. Expansive glass windows seamlessly connect the restaurant to the vibrant town and stunning ocean views. Chessboard tiled tables with bright orange bases combine with colourful chairs and bold fabrics in hues of orange, blue and pink.
The feature surfboard high tables create casual seating next to the bar area, and the slops chandeliers made from recycled rubber and plastic are a talking point. Quirky artwork is both fun and creative and attention to detail reigns supreme, even the bathrooms are an ‘Instagrammable’ delight.
The Slops mascot, ‘Oliver Plakkies Fry’, who was lovingly named by friendly locals, welcomes children of all ages. Oliver is a charming upholstered beaded octopus which floats above the children’s activity area, its large eyes overseeing the creativity and enthusiasm from our youngest clientele. Popular meal options are available in our separate kids menu and the Fizz Pop is proving to be a favourite kiddie beverage!
The casual dining menu is vast, ranging from crispy sourdough pizzas to the best grills and an array of seafood options. Slops food options are most certainly laid back and there is something for everyone with Slops’ signature dishes clearly receiving a positive response. The Slops cocktail list is unique and extensive alongside a carefully selected wine list, some from Plett’s very own vineyards. Browse the menu here.
The downstairs Slops bar in stripey green hues, masculine leather, historic glimpses of stone façade, bold and sparkly disco balls and a play on the surfboard is both cozy and charming with an over-sized veranda eagerly awaiting sunny days ahead.
