New Archery Tag activity
Archery Adventures began with a simple goal: to offer something fun, unique and close to nature for guests staying at a small family-run lodge in Plett. After relocating to South Africa in 2018, founders Chris & Karin Spies settled on a beautiful piece of land and set up a modest archery range just steps from the pool—an easy way for guests to try something new without even leaving the lodge.
Driven by a love for adventure and innovation, Chris soon saw the potential for more. With the help of local archers, a professional 3D archery course was developed—one capable of hosting official competitions. What followed was an unexpected but welcome transformation. The sport, the challenge and the sense of community captured people of all ages, and interest grew rapidly.
In 2023, Archery Adventures took a major leap forward, relocating to a more central farm in Plettenberg Bay. Karin joined Chris full-time, and together they turned a side activity into a fully fledged adventure destination.
Today, Archery Adventures operates two fully equipped and safety-focused target ranges, offering a variety of experiences for locals and visitors alike:
- Target Archery Experience – a classic introduction, perfect for first-timers
- 3D Regular – a shorter, budget-friendly option combining target practice with the 3D forest trail
- 3D Extended – the full experience, including two moving targets for an added challenge
Additionally, Archery Adventures is proud to offer the new Archery Tag – think paintball-style fun using safe, foam-tipped arrows in a dynamic battle-zone setup – perfect for groups, families and team outings. And, in the winter months, Night Archery is proving popular! Available from 15 May to 15 August, guests are guided through the forest after dark for an archery experience with a twist that has proved very a huge success!
Each experience begins with a warm welcome, a safety briefing and basic instruction, allowing even complete beginners to feel confident within 20–30 minutes. From there, guests set off with an experienced instructor and guide into a natural ravine, following a thoughtfully designed 3D Archery Trail that winds through magnificent indigenous forest. It’s immersive, engaging and surprisingly addictive.
Whether you’re quietly honing your aim among the trees, testing your nerve at night, or gearing up for friendly competition, Archery Adventures offers a playful, nature-based experience that feels distinctly Plett. It’s outdoor fun with heart, skill and a strong sense of place—proof that some of the most memorable adventures begin when you try something new.
