NSRI Plett urges caution due to increased shark activity

Published: June 24th, 2020

NSRI Plettenberg Bay and Bitou Municipal authorities are urging public caution to bathers and paddlers along the Plettenberg Bay coastline due to increased shark activity inshore.

The increase in shark activity is normal at this time of year owing to the proximity of the sardine run which passes the bay during the months May to July. The presence of whales in the bay at this time of year is also a factor which attracts sharks due to the possibility of whale carcasses which attracts marine life that feed off it.
