rage-taxiOrganisers of this year’s Plett Rage are introducing the Rage Transport Call Centre – a new initiative for 2014. The system would alleviate the need for cash to be carried by the students, thus decreasing possibilities of ‘price jumping’ and theft. The system also allows the different taxi drivers to be accountable for their guests. Bitou Municipality fully supports the initiative and has offered the use of one of their municipal houses to be used as the Rage Transport Call Centre, conveniently located off Marine Drive.

More than 30 temporary jobs have been created from this initiative.

rage-call-centreTogether with the Taxi Associations – Ncedu and PTO, the Bitou Law Enforcement and traffic departments, Bruce Richardson and the Plett Community Police Forum and the various volunteers, Plett is trying it’s best to ensure that the student’s safety is a priority during the Plett Rage. The initiative is focused on keeping the students and people of Plett safe by discouraging drinking and driving, and students from walking alone at night.

Students purchase special taxi tokens which are then used to pay for their taxi rides in and around the Bitou areas. The areas that have been included are from Central Plett to as far as the Harkerville and Crags areas. The areas have been split into three zones, each dependent upon which area you are in. This will determine how many taxi tokens a student will need to get back and forth.

Each zone will have permanent taxi ranks situated in designated areas, so when the Call Centre contacts them, they are not far from the vicinity to collect students. Those taxi ranks are purely for dispatch of taxis only, not for students to go to.

In addition to these dispatch zones, there will be three permanent central taxi ranks available to the students. Here, they can climb on board without prior notice but they must present their tokens. Locations for these Hop & Ride taxies are:

  • Central Beach (day only)
  • VIP Super Club (day and night)
  • Flashbacks (day and night)

Some accommodation will have taxi pick-up points, where the students must wait – these establishments are:

  • Flashbacks
  • Shell Garage
  • VIP Club
  • The Dunes Hotel & Resort
  • River Club
  • Castleton
  • Formosa
  • Beacon Island Resort

The Rage Transport Call Centre will be open daily from 8am to 5am, from the 28th of November until the 7th of December and from 8am to 1pm on the 8th December.

Tokens are available for purchase before Plett Rage Starts – please email sales@plettrage.co.za.

Tokens will also be sold at the Rage Registration Points at the following locations:

  • Flashbacks
  • Shell Garage

Tokens will be sold from Flashbacks right through the Rage Period.

And at the following venues between 8pm and 11pm each night at the Taxi Pick up points
