In a joint venture between Plett Tourism and Bitou Municipality, the Plett Summer season kicked off when the two entities hosted the largest radio station in the Garden Route – Eden FM on Monday the 7th of December.

Eden FM’s mobile station arrived on Sunday afternoon and all necessary arrangements were made to ensure a smooth sailing process, and the van subsequently parked at the Taxi Rank in Central Plett where it broadcasted live between 06h00 to 09h00 and again from 12h00 to 15h00.

Plett Tourism was represented by Acting CEO Patty Butterworth and Plett Tourism’s writer Wandisile Sebezo and used this opportunity to communicate with Eden Radio listeners its key priority this summer which is safety, safety and more safety. We know we sound like broken records but given the increasing numbers of COVID19 in our region, we are left with no choice but to keep stressing the important points.

Summer season being one of the busiest times in the Plett Calendar, Plett Tourism’s Patty Butterworth also used the opportunity to advise visitors and residents alike about shopping in Plett this December, some of the more popular activities in the area and discussing the difference that 2020 brings in comparison to previous years.

“This was a great opportunity to address listeners from across the Garden Route and to share some of the more popular areas to visit while in Plett. Most notably, for our guests to explore the outdoors to enjoy fresh air, our open spaces and the interesting outdoor shopping areas for a unique experience,” said Butterworth.

I touched on how township economies were affected by COVID19 with some of their major events like The Plett Gqom Experience and the New Year’s Eve party being postponed to 2021, both events usually take place at the community stadium in Kwano.

The Bitou Municipality, represented by Head of Communications Mr Andile Namntu, clarified some of the issues pertaining to the annual matric student festival that usually sees scores of school leavers flocking to this seaside town. Contrary to what was reported in the media, Plett Rage did not take place in 2020.

Local artists also had an opportunity to promote their craft live and on-air with some of their songs being played. These included Ace Mclein, Main Fact, Mc Lino, Sanity Langa and others.

“Bitou is excited by the outcomes of the recent visit from Eden FM. The live slot we were given allowed us to share valuable information with our residents,” said Mr Andile Namntu of the visit from Eden FM.

The occasion was also part of Eden FM’s Summer Alive Campaign where the station is visiting all the towns along the Garden Route, from Plett to Mosel Bay, up to Oudtshoorn and De Rust.

We thank the Plett community for interacting with Eden FM presenters and some even scoring themselves fantastic prizes.

You can tune in to Eden FM in Plett at 99.7 or listen online at www.edenfm.co.za.

Remember to always mask up, sanitize and maintain social distance.
