Plett’s raptor rehab relaunches as Raptor Rescue

Raptor Rescue Plettenberg Bay, with the support of Bird Life Plett, opened its doors in September 2020. We took over the premises and infrastructure and adopted a number of the resident birds from the previous owners, Radical Raptors. Our mission is to build on the strengths of this landmark Garden Route attraction by boosting our credentials as a rehabilitation centre.

We service the conservation needs of the area by providing a refuge for sick, injured and orphaned birds of prey and are committed to rehab and release wherever possible. Our aim is to give the public a window into this important conservation work through our guided tours and flying demonstrations.

Our tours are hosted by Mark Robson, who gained his experience working with birds of prey whilst doing his falconry apprenticeship with his brother at Radical Raptors. The center is now run by Mark and his partner, Laura Fotheringham, who is also a nature and animal enthusiast. Their dedication toward the centre and the work that they do is most apparent in the high standards they maintain in the well-being of the birds in their care.

Funding for their rehabilitation facilities is predominantly derived through admission fees to the Awareness centre, as well as through sponsorship and donations. Raptor Rescue Plett welcomes visitors to join them for a guided tour and flying demonstration which runs for 45minutes to an hour. Tours take place at 10:00am, 12:00pm and 2:00pm, public access to the centre is restricted to these time allocations only.

Raptor Rescue Plettenberg Bay is Conveniently located off the N2, the centre forms part of The Heath Complex, a charming cluster of shops and restaurant offering local produce and crafts.

Visit our Gift & Souvenir shop at the centre where you can browse through our slecetion of hand crafted and locally produced art and products. We source proudly south African products where ever possible and a percentage of the sales goes toward our rehabilitation facilities.

It is encouraged to book as we have limited space owing to Covid regulations.
