Shark spotters wanted for summer season in Plett
Plett Shark Spotters is looking to employ 12 shark spotters to trial our safety programme at five Plettenberg Bay beaches over the coming summer season.

Duties:
• Continuous visual surveillance from elevated vantage points
• Communication of shark and other marine life sightings to Lifesavers
• Data collection
• Adherence to all standard operating procedures and safety protocols
• Public communication and education
• Safeguard and maintenance of personal equipment
Requirements:
• Over 18 years old
• Living in the Plettenberg Bay area
• Excellent eyesight
• Excellent concentration skills and patience
• Confident in dealing with the public
• Ability to work under pressure
• Good English language skills and ability to complete data sheets
• Prepared to work over weekends, public holidays and school holidays including Christmas, New Year and Easter
• Knowledge of marine life, environmental conservation and beach safety will be a significant advantage.
PLEASE NOTE: An eye test and drug screening test will be conducted before any appointments take place.
Hours of work: Spotters will be required to work 6-hour shifts from 7am to 1pm or 1pm to 7pm. A total of 36 hours per week (6 days per week) to be determined on a schedule set by the Plett Operations Manager. This will include weekends and public holidays.
Remuneration: R40 per hour for weekdays and Saturdays. Sundays at 1.5 x normal rate. Public Holidays at 2 x normal rate.
