Tebelo NPC Unveils Flagship Community Training Centre in Plettenberg Bay

In a significant stride towards community transformation, Tebelo Community Development Non-Profit Company celebrated the launch of its flagship community training centre in Plettenberg Bay.

Bitou Mayor, Mr. Dave Swart, graced the event, alongside representatives from partner organisations such as People of Love NPC, The Kwano Cycling Academy, Plett Tourism, and generous donors.

At the heart of Tebelo‘s mission is the vision to revolutionize South Africa and the broader African continent with a reproducible model focused on holistic community transformation. Jaco van den Heever, the Project Manager of Tebelo, shares, “We believe in elevating vulnerable communities through a wholeness approach centred on Health, Nutrition, and Education.”

Through a strategic partnership with Africa Skills Village, a member of the UXi group, Tebelo delivers accredited training courses. Their goal is beyond mere qualification. Tebelo ensures every trainee is equipped either to venture into business or pioneer a fresh enterprise. Their initial success story is the training of six bakers from nearby urban communities, facilitated through a three-month assistant baker course by the renowned Francois Ferreira Academy.

Dr. Ellenore Meyer-van den Heever, CEO of Tebelo, expressed her enthusiasm, “Witnessing our vision of empowerment through education become tangible is exhilarating. Our aspirations for the Tebelo Lighthouse farm are expansive, encompassing urban farming, viticulture, farm-to-table initiatives, and even a visionary ‘University of Life’ offering specialized training in health, nutrition and education.”

In a call to action, Tebelo invites local and international companies, along with donors, to sponsor students and back transformative projects. Among these projects are the establishment of an Early Childhood Development Centre, the creation of a multi-purpose sports field, and the construction of a Technology Enabled Active Learning Centre in collaboration with partner NGO, Matter. Given sufficient funding, Tebelo sets its sights on extending its reach across South Africa and Africa.

For those keen on visiting, Tebelo Lighthouse stands majestically just outside Plettenberg Bay on the N2 Highway in the picturesque Garden Route of the Western Cape.
