Unlocking creativity at Still Rise Pottery Studio

Late last year, the Plett Tourism team was invited to Still Rise Pottery Studio for a creative workshop under the excellent guidance of Mashca and Margaret (known fondly as the M&Ms). Still Rise has worked with Plett Tourism to produce workshops for both the Plett ARTS Festival and the Plett Ocean Festival, providing a fun and varied opportunity for visitors to enjoy a day of creative pottery.

Seven of the team members headed out to Still Rise in Plett’s Airport Road area:  Cindy, Thandi, Brayley, Andisiwe, Emily, Chris and Brendon.

After a quick introduction and pep talk from Mashca the team was instructed on how to handle clay, the principles of pottery and to be kind to themselves and each other on their journey of discovery.

Each was given a lump of clay and taught how to knead the material into a small bowl as a starting point. Once that task was completed, and after a quick coffee break, the main purpose of the event arrived… to delve into their creativity with clay.

Each team member was handed a new lump of clay, and using the techniques taught in the class up to this point, left to come up with whatever they wanted to create.

The results in the gallery below were left to dry, then fired in a kiln, and painted and glazed by the enthusiastic team on another day, once they were ready.

Look out for the M&Ms at the Plett Ocean Festival (4 – 13 July 2025) and Plett ARTS Festival (3 -12 September 2025) calendars for a wonderfully immersive, kind and creative day of sculpting. Learn more about Still Rise Pottery Studio’s classes.
