Wine and dine with Luka Vineyards
Are you someone who enjoys their food with some good wine? Well, let us introduce you to one of Plett’s beautiful vineyards. The Luka Vineyards are located in Harkerville, revamped by Laura Harvey after she and her husband Philip Harvey bought the Vineyard in 2019. The previous owners had kept the estate largely private – with occasional tastings – however, Philip and Laura had a wonderful vision of owning a restaurant and, in 2020, they opened the Luka Vineyards Cafe.
Opening a restaurant in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic proved difficult with so many restrictions but luckily their style of venue, with an outdoor feel, enabled Laura and Philip to continue to operate within those restrictions. “We had a lot of support from our local clientele, Plettenberg Bay and Knysna and a lot of people use our venue as a meeting spot because they either do not want to go Knysna or Plett and our position is very good, this has worked well in our favour,” says Laura.
The restaurant has some amazing choices of food, they accommodate everyone with their vegan and gluten-free breakfast, served from 09:00 – 11:30. One of their best-selling gluten-free breakfast dishes includes their gluten-free pancakes: American pancakes as breakfast specialty and they serve gluten-free bread with all of their breakfast in addition to a selection of six delicious gluten-free cakes! If you want to skip breakfast and go straight to lunch, Chef Richard Rorich will amaze you with mouth-watering lunch options: from a half roasted chicken served with salad and potato wedges, prawn curry, beef curry and Thai chicken curry are all signature meals and perfect for a warming autumn or winter’s day.
The cafe has recently added pizza on their menu and it’s worth a try. “Our pizza is the best in Plett and you will taste the difference” says Laura. She further added, ” It’s been a year since we have established our wood-fired pizza oven and it has become very popular with our customers – it is one of our best selling dishes.”
For a romantic or family-fun taste of Luka, you can book a selection of delicious picnic boxes prepared by Chef Rich, including a kids’ picnic box, complete with a basket and blanket to perfectly enjoy the estate’s surroundings. Luka Cafe is also available for bookings for birthday and anniversary celebrations and is open every day from 09:00 – 16:00 except Mondays.
