The Plett Trail, Plett Tourism’s new industry product, was launched at the World Travel Market® Africa 2016 (WTM) at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) earlier in April. Plett Tourism participated with Wesgro, the official tourism, trade and investment promotion agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape. Other area tourism representation on the Wesgro stand included Knysna and our Regional Tourism Office, Garden Route & Klein Karoo.

The Plett Trail is a luxury slackpacking experience for outdoor enthusiasts and folks who like to experience the outdoors in a relaxed environment. It’s an adventure with package options ranging from one night / two day hiking to nine night / ten day hiking. As one of only two slackpacking package products on offer in the Western Cape, it’s a very exciting addition to travel professionals and travellers along the Garden Route.

WTM Africa was a fantastic platform to launch The Plett Trail. With a vibrant, culturally diverse audience of tourism professionals in South Africa and international travel professionals, our representatives were able to increase brand exposure, generate new sales leads, strengthen existing relationships and close new business.

In addition to launching The Plett Trail, we took select wine farms with us to promote our area as a burgeoning wine industry location. Participating wine farms included Kay & Monty Vineyards, Luka Wines and Packwood Wine Estate. The wine tasting activations were extremely popular, with visits from high profile individuals including ministers Alan Winde and Derek Hannekom, SABC and celebrity social media personalities.

Follow-up and continuous contact with industry professionals will be ongoing, so don’t be surprised to find a few familiar faces amongst new travellers in Plett to experience “slackpacking” around the area.
