Plett Tourism Edu-Tours has matrics facing their fears

One of the many community upliftment programs done by the Plett Tourism is what came to be known as Plett Tourism Educational Tours, which really is a bag of mixed activities in and around Plett itself. With the aim to educate local youth about the rich history the town enjoys, and also familiarise them with the town’s tourist destinations and offerings, so that they too, can become ambassadors of brand Plett.

Amongst these educational programs is a bungy jumping trip at the Bloukrans Bridge in Tsitsikama. I can tell you now, it’s an amazing experience.

I accompanied this year’s selected young participants, and while driving to Tsitsikama, the mood was tense and dull, like some tragic incident has occurred, it was as if death was lingering around, well, one would be lying if to say the mere thought of death didn’t occur.

But perhaps the jump did exactly what Khula Africa Commercials’ Phaki Sebezo wanted it to achieve- to instil in each of these young participants a sense of hope, a sort of fresh start, which then compels one to view life with new lenses, especially given that most of the participants were doing matric this year. And after a stressful year, this is perhaps exactly what they needed.

Having jumped myself, for the very first time, it’s a feeling that cannot really be explained with words, I am lost for adjectives to describe this feeling. But you come back alive, fresh, I felt lighter, as though life’s troubles have been washed away, and in ushered a new era of bliss.

Priceless was the expressions on the faces of the participants, it’s a moment they will live to tell for the rest of their lives. Some vouch to do it again.

Kudos to Plett Tourism and Khula Africa Commercials for doing excellent work with programs such as these. Keep up the good work, what a way to end the year, even for the not so adventurous types such as me, it’s a Plett Feeling that will stay forever.
