A Toast to Terroir: Telluric is Plett’s newest wine estate

There’s never a dull moment in Plett, and standing in Telluric’s Zoox Plett restaurant overlooking the Bitou River, Rhone Hill Polo Fields, and young vines, it’s easy to appreciate the many locations from which to enjoy ‘that Plett feeling.’

The owners of the acclaimed Beau Constantia, Pierre and Cecily du Preez, are in the process of developing a new wine destination in Plettenberg Bay. The venture has been named Telluric, derived from the Latin word Tellus or Tellur, which means ‘of the earth’ or ‘from the soil.’

The brand name was inspired by telluric currents: electric currents that move underground or through the ocean. Telluric currents result from both natural causes and human activity, and the discrete currents interact in a complex pattern. It is at the intersection between the natural and the human element that the du Preez work to achieve, with a philosophy of preserving a place and all the forces that collectively define it or give it character. It is an exploration of the intrinsic relationship we have with the earth and its processes through the lens of farming, with a specific focus on viticulture. Simply put: that which is produced by nature and its pure energy.

Although the vines are only a year old, it will be a few more years before Telluric’s wines are served. However, the on-site restaurant, Zoox, and new Padel courts are already creating a stir of their own. The restaurant is ideally located with exceptional views and aims to provide a comfortable dining experience, cozy coffee shop, wine bar, or venue in this exciting new location.

We would like to wish the du Preez and their team the best as they extend their vision and production from Beau Constantia to Bitou!
