Andrew Hill of Cairnbrogie farm in Plett, hosts of the Pennypinchers Adventure Weekend

Cairnbrogie has been in the Hill Family since 1972. Oliver and Dominique enjoyed sharing the family farm with friends and relations over many happy holidays. Originally the farm was extensively planted to wheat and peas. In 1976 pine plantations were established and the first dams built on the farm. Following on from the dam building was the decision to start a dairy business. In 1985 Cairnbrogie entered the dairy farming business and has grown from 40 cows to over 450 in milk.

Andrew Hill and his family have lived on the farm for the past 15 years and have put in lots of time and energy into this beautiful piece of land and taken the farm to the next level. In 2012 Cairnbrogie was approached by the Equine College to supply accommodation for their students. At present Cairnbrogie’s village accommodates 20 students on a full time basis. A couple of years ago PennyPinchers Adventure Racing Team led by James Stewart approached Cairnbrogie to run an adventure trail run and this continues today as an integral part of the Plettenberg Bay Easter Games.

Cairnbrogie is a unique property with over 100ha of coastal fynbos. In 2015 this land was formerly protected under the Stewardship program and is now a protected area under national legislation. Together with other farms along this coast this forms The Robberg Coastal Corridor.

During this time Andrew began to develop a few trails for mountain bikers and trail runners in Plettenberg Bay and these were well received. In 2015 Andrew and Lyndall decided to open up a Mountain Bike & Trail Park anchored by a DirtLab pump track and backed up with numerous interconnected trails. This park opened in November 2015.

Plett Mountain Bike Park at Cairnbrogie has numerous hiking trails around the farm and to the picturesque coastline; these are also open for trail running. Once a year during Easter the course is made available for the Pennypinchers Adventure Easter Weekend in Plett which is fast becoming one of the must run events on the Easter Trail Running Circuit.

Cairnbrogie is blessed with a large area in which to develop MTB trails. Their aim is to provide intermediate skill riding for young riders. The learning of basic bike control skills will be a focus of the trails. Older more experienced riders can enjoy remarkable scenery on their way to the well know SANPARKS and Cape Pine MTB trails.

This awesome sponsor has included some great prizes to be won this weekend. Find out more here.
