Plett Tourism introduces the new Plett Adventure Race Team, a four-member devoted team soon to fly the flag of Plett during the 2016 Expedition Africa.

Four local adventure extremists will be flying the flag for Plettenberg Bay when they take part in the gruelling Expedition Africa event from 15to 21 May 2016 which will see them bike, run and paddle, navigating their own way from check point to check point on an unmarked route, from Sedgefield, through Knysna and then to Plettenberg Bay, traversing various mountains, valleys and rivers along the way.

Not for the faint-hearted, area locals Drew Scott, Petrus Maree, Andrew Damp and the only female member, Kate Southey, are taking part in Expedition Africa, which is part of the Adventure Race World Series, a 7 day 500km nonstop race that will see them complete in a gruelling adventure over mountains, through trails and across rivers.

Plett Adventure Race TeamWhen the event starts on the 15th of May, the team will be racing in riding kit adorned with the “Plett it’s a feeling” banner, “There is going to be considerable media coverage of the event, especially internationally, so it seemed a shame not to promote Plettenberg Bay,” Drew said, “so I got in touch with Plettenberg Bay Tourism to see if they wanted to use us as advertising boards”.

Patty Butterworth, Plett Tourism Projects Coordinator was delighted to agree to the approach.

“After all, they have been training on the local trails and mountain bike tracks from Tsitsikamma to George and if they can inspire more adventure cyclists, runners and kayakers to come and experience our world class trails then that’s just fantastic.

“Plett Tourism is a sponsor of The Plett Adventure Race Team so an opportunity to leverage all of this attention was too good to refuse. We are delighted to have Drew, Petrus, Andrew and Kate showcasing the Plett brand,” she said.

Plett Adventure Race Team“Adventure racing is a big part of our activity calendar, and for many tourists it’s a highlight of their holiday. We are excited to partner with businesses who share our values and passion for adventure in Plettenberg Bay,” she added.

Fans can follow the team’s adventure during Expedition Africa, which runs from 15 to 21 May, at #plettadventure on Twitter.
