The Old Rectory Hotel & Spa Recognised in CondéNast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards

Plett Tourism would like to congratulate Rare Earth Retreats as their exceptional properties Old Rectory Hotel & Spa in Plettenberg Bay and The Outpost in Kruger National Park have both been recognised in this year’s prestigious Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.

Adding to the celebration, The Old Rectory has also recently received its official 5-star grading from TGCSA making it one of only two boutique hotels in Plettenberg Bay to earn this distinction.

The 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards drew over 757,000 responses from Condé Nast Traveler readers in the United States, who shared their favourite travel experiences across the globe. As the travel industry’s longest-running and most respected accolades, the awards remain a benchmark of distinction and global recognition.

ABOUT THE OLD RECTORY HOTEL & SPA

The charming heritage building – a National Monument which has been immaculately restored and reimagined as an enchanting boutique hotel – comprises 18 stylish suites as well as a sparkling swimming pool with a deck shaded by ancient milkwoods, a tranquil in-house spa and a popular bistro-inspired restaurant.

The spa is an oasis of calm, with its peaceful enclosed garden and generously-proportioned suites – each with their own private outdoor spaces – giving guests the option to escape a little (or a lot) whenever the mood strikes.

The hotel is also perfectly positioned for days of fun and exploration, providing easy access to Plett’s wide, white-sand beaches, the long, narrow Keurbooms Lagoon, the dense indigenous forests that unfold along the coastline and the raw beauty of the Robberg Nature Reserve.

ABOUT 1777 AT THE OLD RECTORY

Midweek dinners under the stars, Friday nights with friends, special occasions celebrated in style, and a delicious breakfast menu – join us for a memorable dining experience in the heart of Plettenberg Bay.

The main dining room sits in the oldest part of the hotel, in the original building constructed in 1777 as an army barracks for the Dutch East India Company before being converted into an Anglican rectory in 1869. An exquisite, centuries-old stone wall adds warmth and character to the space while the building’s heritage inspires a bistro-style menu that draws on Dutch, English and South African influences.
